Janessa Chenot is a Fort Collins native and Colorado-based wildlife artist whose work explores the natural world through strong narrative figures and a focus on detail. Many of her works are inspired by the feeling of yūgen, a Japanese aesthetic concept describing the quiet and profound awe evoked by the beauty and depth of the natural world which cannot be fully articulated but is deeply felt.
She creates each character to feel alive and individual, inviting viewers to pause and be pulled into a moment of private connection with each one. She particularly enjoys the challenge of pen and ink, especially in her black-and-white wildlife portraits, while also exploring mediums such as acrylic and charcoal. She chooses each piece deliberately, paying careful attention to symbolism, texture, expression, and developing realism.
Her work is available as original pieces as well as fine-art giclée prints, allowing collectors and art lovers alike to invite these special pieces into their own homes.
