The Expert Western Painter, Gregory Mayse

The American West has held a profound influence of Fort Collins artist Gregory Mayse since his childhood in Castalia, Ohio. What began as a boy’s fascination has evolved into a distinguished career as an award-winning oil painter dedicated to the diverse characters and landscapes of the frontier.

Following a career as a professional photographer, Gregory returned to oil painting in 2012 and is now represented by Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, CO, Old Town Art and Framery in Fort Collins, Kuehl Fine Art at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, CO and Deselms Fine Art in Cheyenne, WY.

His contributions to Western art have been recognized by the National Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph, MO and the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.

He is a respected voice in the Western art community. Mayse has been featured in interviews on NPR (Kansas City), KQ2 TV (St. Joseph, MO), 9News (Denver) and was part of the Artist Lecture Series at Trinidad State College.

Gregory’s work has been featured in the leading western art magazines: Art of the West, Southwest Art, and Western Art Collector. He wrote and photographed a feature article for Art of the West titled “Inspiring Artists in the West” for their November 2025 issue.

Mayse has shown his work at the prestigious Out West Art Show in Great Falls, MT, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show & Sale and the Greeley Stampede Western Art Exhibition & Sale.
